At Olympic Medical Center, our midwives personalize your care by listening to your concerns, informing you about your options, and respecting your choices about pain relief and other medical treatments during your delivery. We work to provide the birth experience you want while keeping you and your baby safe.
Everything our midwives do is focused on you and your baby. People love the personal interactions they have with our midwives. Close, trusting relationships are formed, starting with the first ultrasound to determine your baby’s due date.
Midwives are experts in maternity care
Our midwives are highly educated and skilled in the care of pregnant women and the delivery of babies. After becoming registered nurses, they completed advanced degrees in midwifery. They are compassionate and progressive providers with many combined years of experience.
Our midwives provide prenatal care, postnatal care and attend births. Natural childbirth and low-intervention birth options are their specialty. They often use natural comfort methods, like relaxation techniques, first. However, they are licensed to prescribe you an epidural or other pain medication, should you want or need them.
Unlike midwives who attend homebirths, our midwives have full hospital privileges and will deliver your baby in our birth center.
Most births are not emergencies, but our midwives are experts at recognizing urgent situations and know what actions to take. They are backed up by physician obstetricians in the event of a complicated pregnancy or delivery.
Midwifery services include care outside of pregnancy
Our midwives do a lot more than manage low-risk pregnancies and deliver babies. They also provide birth control options; screen for and treat sexually transmitted infections; and help with vaginal infections, menopause symptoms and more.
