If you've had a serious heart issue, Olympic Medical Center's (OMC) cardiac rehabilitation program can help you get your life and your health back on track.
Cardiac rehab combines medically supervised exercise with heart-health education and support. The goal is to help you recover physically and emotionally after a major heart event, such as:
- Heart attack.
- Angina (chest pain).
- Coronary angioplasty or stent placement.
- Heart surgery, such as valve surgery or coronary artery bypass.
- Heart failure.
Benefits of cardiac rehab
At OMC, our cardiac rehab experts empower you with knowledge and a personalized plan so that you can feel confident exercising and performing your daily activities. We do that by helping you learn how to safely increase the amount and intensity of your exercise.
Among its proven benefits, cardiac rehab can help you:
- Control symptoms, such as shortness of breath and chest pain.
- Get strong enough to do the things you want and need to do.
- Reduce your risk of a second heart attack.
- Live longer.
And here's a bonus: When you attend cardiac rehab, you will meet other people who have heart disease and who, like you, are beginning a heart-healthy journey. You might even make a few new friends!
Why choose OMC's cardiac rehab center?
Here are a few of the things that make our cardiac rehab program stand out:
Expert care. Our cardiac rehab program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Our skilled rehab team members have advanced degrees in either exercise science or exercise physiology. As a team, we are passionate about teaching exercise and heart-healthy lifestyles. We love what we do.
Convenient locations. We provide cardiac rehab in Port Angeles and in Sequim so you can access care close to home.
Virtual rehab options. We offer a hybrid cardiac rehab model, which may allow you to attend some of your rehab classes virtually through a video link.
What to expect during cardiac rehab
Our phase 2 cardiac rehab program starts with an assessment with one of our exercise experts. After the assessment, you will receive an exercise plan that is tailored to you.
- Most people attend rehab classes two times per week for 8 to 12 weeks.
- At each visit, you will learn exercises that are good for your heart. You can use our modern cardiovascular and strength training equipment.
- Our knowledgeable staff will also offer you heart-health education. We will teach you about nutrition, stress management and other ways to take care of your heart.
- After you complete the program, you may have the option of continuing your exercises with a member of our staff and in partnership with the YMCA in Sequim.
