If you have a cardiac arrhythmia—a problem with your heart's rate or rhythm—your doctor may recommend a pacemaker or other implanted device to help treat the issue.
Fortunately, you can get the expert care you need for an arrhythmia close to home.
Olympic Medical Center's (OMC) Cardiac Rhythm Management is a full-service cardiac device program—something typically only found at large urban medical centers.
Our program is led by a board-certified internal medicine doctor who specializes in cardiac rhythm management. We focus on implanting and managing pacemakers, implanted cardiac defibrillators (ICD) or implanted loop recorders (ILR).
Here are some of our cardiac rhythm management services.
Cardiac rhythm consultations
If your cardiologist refers you to our clinic because of an arrhythmia, we can evaluate your need for a cardiac device.
If you need an advanced diagnostic test or specialized surgical procedure for an arrhythmia, our affiliation with Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute makes the referral process easier for you.
Device implantation
Our expert team surgically implants pacemakers, ICDs and ILRs. Our state-of-the-art options include tiny leadless pacemakers, which use no wires and may help reduce complications.
Along with providing expert care, our staff will help you understand your implanted cardiac device and what you can do to get the most from it.
Follow-up care
Whether your cardiac device was implanted at OMC or at another healthcare facility, we can help you with maintenance and follow-up care. We provide support and monitoring for all major device brands, such as St. Jude Medical, Medtronic, Biotronik and Boston Scientific.
Follow up care for your device may include:
- Device checks. Your pacemaker or ICD device needs to be checked periodically to make sure the battery, wires and the device are working. We can perform these checks and adjust the device's programming, as needed. Most of our patients see us at least once a year.
- Convenient remote monitoring. With remote monitoring, data from your device is transmitted to our clinic via an internet-connected monitoring system placed in your home. Remote monitoring helps us detect any issues with your heartbeat or your device, and it may reduce the number of trips you make to your doctor or a device clinic.
- Device management before surgeries or diagnostic tests. Our team works closely with your other healthcare providers to manage your device when you have an upcoming surgery. And we can determine if your cardiac device is compatible with an MRI exam.
