You don’t need experience working in healthcare to get started on the pathway to a rewarding career at Olympic Medical Center (OMC).
OMC supports ongoing education and professional development in a variety of formal and informal career pathways. Many of our employees enjoy growth opportunities at OMC, advancing to different departments and increasing responsibilities.
Certified Nursing Assistant Pathway
Become a trained observer and gain valuable experience in the healthcare setting as a member of the nursing care team. Certified nursing assistants earn $20 per hour and work in a variety of care settings, including Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU/Telemetry and Float.
What we offer: 100% reimbursement for course-related tuition, fees and textbooks to trained observers, patient care aides, dietary staff and environmental services workers who complete a certified nursing assistant program.
Medical Assistant Pathways
Earn a paycheck while you train on the job to become a medical assistant. Gain valuable experience in the healthcare setting as a member of the care team.
What we offer: 100% reimbursement for course-related tuition, fees and textbooks for medical assistant apprentices.
We offer three paths to certification:
- Apprenticeship: On-the-job paid training, with enrollment in an online program for one year. Upon completion of the first year, apprentices may sit for their test to earn their national certification then apply for their certified license through the State of Washington. This is an excellent option for individuals who don't have previous health care experience.
- Highline: On-the-job paid training for one year as a registered medical assistant, at which point enrollment occurs in Highline College for an online course. Upon completion of the online course, there's a national certification test and application can then occur for a certified license through the State of Washington. This path usually works best for someone with background in healthcare, even if it's not performing the same duties as a medical assistant.
-
Peninsula College: On-the-job paid training for one year as a registered medical assistant, at which point employees are enrolled in a course at Peninsula College for one-quarter with coursework completed fully online plus limited in-person skills checkoff days. Upon completion of the hybrid course, employees are eligible for two national credentialing exams and their Medical Assistant - Certified credential from the Washington State Department of Health.
