Caring for the Lungs
Doctors who specialize in pulmonary medicine are focused on the health of the respiratory system—the organs and muscles that help you breathe. Called pulmonologists, they diagnose and treat patients with breathing-related issues, including asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis and lung cancer. Some pulmonologists specialize further, treating pediatric or geriatric patients, or focusing on a specific respiratory disease.
Treatment for lung disease may include medication as well as respiratory therapy—using exercises to improve breathing and daily function.
If you and your provider feel you may benefit from seeing a pulmonologist, ask your provider for a referral. For more information, please call Olympic Medical Physicians at (360) 565-0999.
