Oncology – Medical

Specialists in Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment

Depending on the type of cancer you have, you may see a medical oncologist as part of your treatment. These specialists use chemotherapy (drugs) and immunotherapy (substances made by the body or in a lab that boost the immune system) to destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors.

In targeted cancer therapy, doctors use information about a cancer’s genes in a particular patient and the proteins that allow it to grow to choose the most effective medication for that patient. Targeted therapies are available for cancers of the breast, kidney, lung, colon, some blood cancers, and more.
