PORT ANGELES  (August 13, 2020) – Olympic Medical Center Physical Therapists Chris Shaw, PT, OSC and Cortney Hutmacher, PT, DPT, OCS, recently certified as clinical specialists in orthopaedic physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.

The designation must be renewed every 10 years.

This was a re-certification for Shaw, who has been with Olympic Medical Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation since 2004, and specializes in orthopaedics, sports medicine and vestibular disorders.

Cortney Hutmacher

For Hutmacher, this is her initial certification. She joined the team in 2018, and specializes in orthopaedic manual therapy, with extensive experience in sports medicine, post-surgical rehabilitation and therapies related to movement-based impairments.

To obtain certification, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in a specialty area. They must also successfully complete a rigorous examination, demonstrating specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in the specialty area; in this case orthopaedic. “We are very pleased to be able to recognize Cortney and Chris in this certification,” says Ken Berkes, director of physical therapy and rehabilitation. “Our patients will truly benefit from their excellent care and should take great confidence in Cortney and Chris’ advanced skill and training.”
