Olympic Medical Center welcomes Samuel Skovgaard, MD, to the Olympic Medical Center general surgery team.

Dr. Skovgaard completed his medical degree and internship at University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora before finishing his hospital surgical residency at University of Arizona in Tucson. Now, as a general surgeon with OMC, he will see patients in the Surgery & Wound Care Clinic in Port Angeles.

As a surgeon, Dr. Skovgaard says he enjoys “seeing my patients overcome their illness and get back to their normal lives.” He explains how the best treatment might not be what a patient expects. “Often, surgeons will pursue treatment plans which don’t include performing surgery. Even though I love to operate, when I can successfully get someone through an illness without going through the ordeal of a surgery, that’s a big win.”

When patients see Dr. Skovgaard, they can expect a thorough and engaged conversation that looks toward next steps. “I’ll ask patients specific questions to help me figure out a diagnosis and then perform a physical exam. After, I’ll explain what I think is going on (and often draw a picture) and what the next steps will be.”

Dr. Skovgaard joins a team of general surgeons at OMC that includes Dr. Charles Bundy, Dr. Georgia Heisterkamp, Dr. Matthew Levy and Dr. Sandra Tatro.
