Olympic Medical Physicians Women's Clinic Welcomes Board-Certified Midwife: Women's Clinic Now Offers Four Certified Midwives and OB/Gyn

April 18, 2011 - Board-certified Midwife Jennifer (Jenn) Brown recently joined Olympic Medical Physicians (OMP) Women’s Clinic, 930 Caroline Street, Port Angeles. Brown, ARNP, CNM, will provide midwifery care and offer a full range of maternity and gynecological care.

“We are very excited to add Jenn to our exceptional team of midwives,” says Kitty LaBarge, OMP director of surgical services. “We feel her experience with high-risk labor and delivery patients will really enhance the care we provide our patients at the Women’s Clinic.”

Brown previously worked for the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in Galveston, Texas, as a maternal child specialist. Brown also provided maternity and women’s health nursing care at Providence Alaska Medical Center, a maternity center for high-risk pregnancy and a tertiary care facility for the state of Alaska. She has clinical and educational experience with Alaska Native Medical Center, Elmendorf Air Force Base, and Geneva Woods Birth Center, all located in Anchorage, Alaska, and Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, Texas.

“I became passionate about midwifery and women’s health after my own experience with a midwife,” says Brown. “It is my goal to provide the best care possible to the women in our community. The Women’s Clinic is a wonderful practice for me to accomplish this goal.”

Brown received her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from Central Texas College in Killen, Texas, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga., and her Master of Science in Nursing with a midwifery focus from Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden, Ky.

About Certified Nurse Midwives

Brown joins three other practicing certified nurse midwives and nurse practitioners at the clinic, including Deborah Bopp, Laurie Johnson-Driese and Mary Roon.  Each midwife has extensive knowledge in the care of pregnant women and the delivery of their babies. The midwives at the Women’s Clinic work closely with the obstetrician and gynecologist, Randell Bauman, MD, who also provides prenatal care and all health maintenance services.

The certified nurse midwives at the Women’s Clinic work closely with the expectant mother to help set realistic goals for the pregnancy and delivery, while keeping both mom and baby healthy. Each midwife has full hospital privileges and pharmaceutical privileges, which allows them to offer moms pain management options, such as epidurals, or post-partum pain medications. With these privileges, Bopp, Brown, Johnson-Driese and Roon are each able to provide the personal care expected from a traditional midwife in the safety and comfort of the Birth Center at Olympic Medical Center.

The midwives provide important health maintenance services for women of all ages, including:

•  Yearly preventive examinations

•  Consultations about birth control options, infertility or hormone replacement therapy

•  Gynecological services
