Olympic Medical Center Receives Nuclear Medicine Accreditation

March 31, 2011 - The American College of Radiology (ACR) has awarded a three-year term of accreditation in nuclear medicine to Olympic Medical Center. The accreditation award extends to the nuclear medicine unit found at Olympic Memorial Hospital within the diagnostic imaging unit.

“We have worked hard to achieve this distinction. This accreditation is the result of dedication by our expert radiologists and skilled technologists, as well as support at the administrative level,” says Deby King, director of diagnostic imaging, Olympic Medical Center. “The ACR gold seal of accreditation shows our patients that they are receiving care in a facility that meets the highest level of standards for imaging quality and safety.”

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting “ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards” after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed.

Olympic Medical Center voluntarily goes through a vigorous review process as part of the accrediting process to:

·         Ensure it meets nationally accepted standards of care

·         Confirm personnel are well qualified, through education and certification, to perform medical imaging, interpret images and administer radiation therapy treatments

·         Verify equipment is appropriate for the test or treatment, and the facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines
