Olympic Medical Center's Dedication to Financial Stewardship Confirmed as it Passes its 12th Consecutive Audit Without a Finding

March 21, 2012 - PORT ANGELES (March 21, 2012) – Olympic Medical Center passed its most recent state audit, receiving a congratulations from Washington State Auditor Brian Sonntag for its commitment to accountability as Olympic Medical successfully earned its 12th consecutive audit without a finding.

As stated in Sontag’s letter to Olympic Medical Chief Executive Officer Eric Lewis, “This significant accomplishment shows the Center’s dedication to sound financial operations and reporting.” Sontag further went on to praise Olympic Medical’s efforts to protect public funds. “The Center has also taken positive steps over the years to protect public dollars by assessing risks related to waste, misappropriation and abuse, and taking actions to prevent or detect such issues in a timely manner.”

The Washington State Auditor’s Office audits Olympic Medical Center annually. “We appreciate the close working relationship we have with the Center officials,” wrote Sontag. “Center staff has consistently expressed sincere interest in the results of our audit work and has been cooperative and friendly throughout the audit process.”

Olympic Medical’s annual operating budget is approximately $140 million.

“Olympic Medical takes the necessary steps to ensure it is a financially accountable health care organization,” says Julie Rukstad, chief financial officer, Olympic Medical. “We approach our annual audit by the State Auditor’s Office as an opportunity to review best practices in how we manage the finances of the medical center. We also see the audit results as reinforcement of the ongoing commitment of the finance team, as well as all Olympic Medical employees, to be responsible financial stewards.”
