Another Successful Audit for Olympic Medical Center

December 7, 2011 - The Washington State Auditor’s Office recently completed its annual audit of Olympic Medical Center and once again the audit resulted in no findings. Olympic Medical has been free of findings since 1999.

“In the areas we examined, the District’s internal controls were adequate to safeguard public assets. The District also complied with state laws and regulations, and its own policies and procedures in the areas we examined,” the report stated.

Olympic Medical, also known as Public Hospital District No. 2, is audited each year. “We work very hard to ensure the efficient and effective use of public resources,” says Eric Lewis, chief executive officer. “I commend Chief Financial Officer Julie Rukstad and her finance team for their excellent and methodic efforts to ensure compliance, as well as all of our staff for their continuous adherence to policies and procedures.”

The recent audit included the review of the hospital district’s financial condition, inventories of medication, cash receipting, public works (construction), home health, travel, its agreement with the OMC Foundation, credit card policy, conflict of interest and other matters. Olympic Medical performed well in all areas reviewed.

Olympic Medical Center (Clallam County Public Hospital District No. 2) is a comprehensive, award-winning health care provider for more than 70,000 residents of Clallam County. It has served the community since its establishment on Nov. 1, 1951, and is governed by a seven-member, publicly elected board. OMC is a sole community hospital and rural referral center. It provides inpatient services at its 80-bed acute-care facility in Port Angeles, including a level-three trauma designated emergency department, surgical services, and labor and delivery. OMC’s outpatient services include cardiac, imaging, physical therapy and rehabilitation, laboratory, surgical services, home health, physician clinics and comprehensive regional cancer care at locations in Port Angeles and Sequim.
