Wolfe appointed as OMC Chief Executive Officer

PORT ANGELES  (Updated August 6, 2020) – Olympic Medical Center’s Board of Commissioners appointed Darryl Wolfe as Olympic Medical Center’s new chief executive officer at the August 5 board meeting.

A Human Resources committee consisting of Commissioners Tom Oblak, Board Secretary John Nutter and Commissioner Thom Hightower, RN, worked with hospital leadership and the remaining board members to determine the finalists. The finalists were interviewed by a panel of board members, medical staff, community partners, stakeholders, the administrative leadership team, directors and staff.

Jennifer Burkhardt, chief human resources officer and general counsel, and key OMC leader on the HR committee, noted: “This was a highly competitive and robust selection process. The board sought to find a qualified CEO who exemplifies The OMC Way, while prioritizing safety, quality, patient experience and employee engagement.  Darryl excelled in his interim role and will serve our patients, community and staff very well during these challenging times.”

The national search resulted in 91 applicants. Of those, 15 applicants went through an intensive screening process and eight candidates were formally interviewed (via Skype), resulting in three finalists being asked to participate in all-day interviews on site. Two of those finalists were from out of state.

As CEO, Wolfe will oversee a $221 million operations budget and nearly 1,600 employees. OMC is a comprehensive organization serving Clallam County that provides for:

• A 67-bed acute care hospital, which includes a Level 3 Trauma Center and emergency department, surgical services, and labor and delivery
• A state-of-the-art cancer center
• Ancillary services including imaging, physical therapy and rehabilitation, cardiac services and laboratory
• A clinic division that includes family medicine, pediatrics, walk-in care, sleep medicine, cardiology, neurology, urology, gastroenterology, cardiology, Women’s Health, pulmonology, general surgery, orthopaedics and podiatry
• Home Health

Wolfe joined Olympic Medical Center in 2006 as a financial analyst, and quickly progressed into leadership roles, including treasurer, director of administration, chief financial officer and most recently chief operating officer. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Pacific Lutheran University and a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University. He lives in Port Angeles with his wife and two school-aged children.
