Katie Sayles, RN, Recognized as an Extraordinary Nurse
SEQUIM – (July 2019) Chief Nursing Officer Ralph Parker, RN, honored Katie Sayles, RN, with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses® at Olympic Medical Cancer Center recently. The award, created by the DAISY Foundation, recognizes the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care provided to patients and families every day.
“Katie embodies everything about the DAISY Award,” said Parker.
A staff member’s nomination stated:
“Katie consistently demonstrates a positive attitude and encourages others to learn, grow, and be a positive role model. Patients request Katie as their nurse and report that she truly listens. She is empathetic, kind, caring and knowledgeable; they feel very comfortable in her capable hands.
“Katie is a highly skilled nurse. She was new to oncology when she first came to Olympic Medical Cancer Center and she has absorbed like a sponge! She has completed her MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) and has been accepted into the ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) program this coming fall. She has such a thirst for learning!
“A [Cancer Center] tradition is to celebrate when patients complete their cancer treatments. Katie found she and another nurse had missed this opportunity for a patient. They both followed the patient outside to congratulate him. They brought such a smile to the patient for celebrating a treatment well done.
“Frequently Katie is seen holding a hand, giving a hug or just listening to a patient. Katie is the type of nurse that doesn’t just come to work for a paycheck, she comes because she enjoys providing the best possible experience for her patients, as well as interactions with her co-workers.”
