An EKG is a graphic recording of the heart’s electrical activity. Electrode leads are attached to a patient’s arms, legs and chest, and while the patient lies still, a recording of the heart’s electrical impulses is printed out in the form of a series of waves representing each heartbeat. This printout is then given to a credentialed physician for interpretation within 48 hours. Advanced trained cardiac staff are always on duty, to perform adult and pediatric EKGs. Our medical center has 42 specially trained, credentialed physicians to interpret adult EKGs, as well as eight specially trained physicians to interpret pediatric EKGs. Olympic Medical Center uses only state-of-the-art Hewlett-Packard Pagewriter EKG machines. To e-mail a cardiac related question to Cardiac Services, click here. |
