OMCC Welcomes New Medical Oncologist

May 31, 2016 -
Nurse Practitioner also Joins the Cancer Center

SEQUIM – As Olympic Medical Cancer Center prepares to say goodbye to beloved medical oncologist Tom Kummet, MD, who is retiring this summer, it welcomes a new physician to the cancer fighting team: Medical Oncologist Rachna Anand, DO. Oncology Nurse Practitioner Tamara Montgomery, MSN, NPC-C, OCN also joins the medical oncology team in June.

"Dr. Kummet will be deeply missed by the team here at the cancer center, but also throughout the community,” says Ken Berkes, director of Olympic Medical Cancer Center. "As we see Dr. Kummet retire, however, we also get to welcome two new outstanding providers to the medical oncology unit. It is exciting to have a team in place for the future.”

Dr. Anand is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology. She graduated from the Temple University School of Pharmacy in Philadelphia before obtaining her doctorate from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania, and her hematology / oncology fellowship at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Anand most recently comes to the community from Advantage Care Physicians located in Staten Island, New York. She has also worked for Consultants in Medical Oncology & Hematology in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, and Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia. While obtaining her doctorate, she worked as a Pharmacist at CVS Pharmacy in North Wales, Pennsylvania.

Ms. Montgomery has extensive experience in oncology and hematology, working for nearly 12 years as a registered nurse for Hematology Oncology Associates in Medford, Oregon and two years as a registered nurse coordinator for Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. In 2015, she obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing from Gonzaga University in Spokane, graduating from the Family Nurse Practitioner program. She most recently worked for a short time as a Family Nurse Practitioner for Providence Medical Group in Canby, Oregon, before accepting the position at Olympic Medical Cancer Center – following her desire to focus on oncology.

"Ms. Montgomery will provide excellent clinical support to our medical oncology physicians and their patients,” says Berkes. "We are thrilled to have her as part of our team.”

The medical oncology team also includes Marion Chirayath, MD, Kurt Norman, MD, and Physician Assistant Deborah Turner.
