Medical/Surgical Staff Honored for Patient Care

April 11, 2018 -
PORT ANGELES – Olympic Medical Center CEO Eric Lewis honored six nursing staff at the board of commissioners meeting in April. Registered Nurses Alicia Forderer, Valerie Oldemeyer, Ginger Samples and Ruth Barclay, along with Certified Nursing Assistants Sergio Contreras and Eriko Inage-Goldstein, received awards for their work on the medical/surgical/pediatric floor at Olympic Memorial Hospital.

According to Lorraine Wall, RN, chief nursing officer and hospital chief operating officer, Forderer’s rapport with her patients is outstanding. "She is a great patient advocate and offers valuable input for the patient and their circumstances,” says Wall.

Oldemeyer provides outstanding care to pediatric patients and has recently taken on the charge nurse assignment on the night shift. "Valerie is a part of the Medical/Surgical Unit-based Council and consistently works on process improvement for the organization and the unit,” said Wall.

"As a senior nurse, Ginger Samples has a wealth of knowledge. She also has the patience of a saint. Ginger trains and mentors our staff and always does the right thing for our patients,” adds Wall.

Barclay, also a senior nurse in the medical/surgical/pediatric department is calm and collected in her demeanor. "She is a valued preceptor on the evening shift team and has trained some top-notch nurses to follow in her footsteps,” says Wall.

Always positive and upbeat, Contreras is dedicated to his patients and has a very strong work ethic. "Patients and staff truly value Sergio,” said Wall.

According to Wall, "Eriko does not have a negative bone in her body.” Her positivity and calm, composed demeanor puts patients and fellow staff at ease.
