Olympic Medical Physicians is pleased to welcome new midwife Cecilia J. Córdova to the Women’s Clinic. Córdova joins midwives Debbie Bopp and Mary Roon, advanced nurse practitioner Lyell Fox, and obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Randell Bauman at the clinic.
Known as “Ceci”, Córdova is a certified nurse midwife (CNM), certified family nurse practitioner (CFNP), as well as an advanced nurse practitioner (ARNP). She replaces Lyell Fox who has retired in her role as midwife, yet, remains at the Women’s Clinic as an ARNP providing routine women’s services.
“I am very pleased to provide midwifery care to women in this community,” says Córdova. “I am also excited for the opportunity to work closely with mothers-to-be from our Hispanic community, and create a birthing experience that is representative of their culture.”
Córdova is proud of her ability to provide care to individuals and families of many cultures. She, along with midwife Bopp, is bilingual in English and Spanish. Although Córdova most recently worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Northwest Hospital in Seattle, she has spent most of her career in the capacity of a certified nurse midwife or a certified family nurse practitioner. She recently completed a midwifery practicum at Oregon Health Sciences University in 2008. Through her diverse experience as a midwife, a family nurse practitioner, and labor and delivery nurse she has developed a well-rounded understanding of women’s care – particularly in the area of obstetrics.
“Ceci is valuable addition to the Women’s Clinic and we are pleased to have her join our midwife team,” says Dale Nachreiner, operations manager of the Women’s Clinic. “She is committed to providing safe, comfortable and dignified care for women, and she also understands the key role families play in the labor and delivery process.”
Certified Nurse Midwives undergo the highest level of midwifery education and are health care practitioners with Master’s Degrees. They provide full scope prenatal care and deliver babies at Olympic Medical Center, and can prescribe medication for pain management. In addition, they perform annual exams and consult regarding other common women’s health conditions. They work collaboratively with clinic OB/Gyn Dr. Bauman to manage more complex medical problems.
