Washington State Hospital Association Recognized for Leadership in Health Care Quality Improvement: WSHA Will Receive Inaugural Dick Davidson Quality Milestone Award

August 5, 2011 - The American Hospital Association (AHA) announced that the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA) will receive the inaugural Dick Davidson Quality Milestone Award for Allied Association Leadership for their work to improve health care quality.

This award is presented to associations that demonstrate leadership and innovation in quality improvement, and contribute to national health care improvement efforts. Olympic Medical Center is a member of WSHA, and involved in this effort.

WSHA began its quality improvement efforts in 2005 by creating the Patient Safety Program. With all community hospitals in the state as members, the program provides a forum for hospitals to share best practices and embrace collaboration in patient safety and quality. Each year WSHA responds to the needs of its members and the community by setting evidence-based goals to achieve real improvement in patient care.

"The ongoing commitment to collaborate and the demonstrated improvements in patient safety by our member hospitals across the state was a key reason we won this award," says Carol Wagner, vice president of patient safety at the Washington State Hospital Association.

Scott Kennedy, MD, chief medical officer at Olympic Medical Center serves on the Patient Safety Program committee. “Dr. Kennedy serves on the committee that sets the goals for our program. Leaders such as Dr. Kennedy are constantly raising the bar and driving our efforts forward."
