New Family Services is a program at Olympic Medical Center developed to provide education, support and follow up for new families in Clallam County. New Family Services programs include childbirth preparation classes, prenatal and postpartum office visiting, breastfeeding consultation and drop-in parent support groups.
Breastfeeding Consults & Postpartum Outpatient Visits
Our breastfeeding consultants, who are all International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and registered nurses, are available to help mothers and babies establish a successful breastfeeding relationship.
Breastfeeding offers many health benefits to mothers and babies, and is encouraged at Olympic Medical Center. One of our expert lactation consultants will visit new moms during their stay in the Birth Center. The lactation consultants also see new moms and babies after they leave the hospital to work on breastfeeding and other health-related assessments.
A postpartum clinic follow-up visit will be offered to all new families and can be scheduled during their hospital stay. New Family Services is available for questions about postpartum and new baby care.
You and Your New Baby Support Group
You and Your New Baby Group meets on a drop-in basis every Monday and Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m., except for the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. No fee or registration is required.
This group is for parents and babies experiencing the first few days, weeks and year of becoming a family. Each group will focus on the needs of the parents present including newborn behavior, care and feeding. The transition into parenting along with the physical and emotional issues of postpartum are discussed.
Focus is given to babies under 3 months of age and is for babies up to 1 year old. This is a fun time to measure and weigh your baby.
