14 OMC Employees Recognized in March

March 17, 2014 -

Mary Romstadt, RN, Presented with February Leadership Award

Olympic Medical Center’s board of commissioners and Chief Executive Officer Eric Lewis recognized 14 employees for their excellence at the March 5 commissioners meeting.

"Bed Ahead”

Specifically, 10 employees received recognition for outstanding improvement work that has led to more prompt admission to the hospital from the emergency department. Recognized employees include:

·         Mendi Sayer, RN, intensive care unit

·         Myrna Dueno, RN, intensive care unit

·         Bruce Schwab, RN, emergency room

·         Katie Hulett, RN, intensive care unit

·         Robin Burse, RN, supervisor, medical / surgical unit

·         Denise Waters, RN, medical / surgical unit

·         Pam Blakeman, RN, house supervisor, nursing administration

·         Leah Hutson, RN, clinical informatics

·         Michael Manley, housekeeping

·         Paula Wahl, quality support services

"Improvement work is a very important part of what we do at Olympic Medical Center, and these employees continue to work tremendously hard to more quickly transition patients from the emergency department to the appropriate hospital bed,” says Lewis. "They have worked together as a committee and with various units across the hospital to make this improvement and we appreciate all their efforts to improve the patient experience.”

Excellence in OB Nursing

A patient wrote a letter praising registered nurses Danielle Wagner, Joy Hauge and Carolynn Addleman for their excellent care during her recent labor, delivery and post-partum recovery at Olympic Medical Center. "This particular patient has delivered previously at other hospitals in other areas of the U.S. and she commented that her experience of Olympic Medical was her best – primarily because of the care and concern of the nurses who cared for her – Danielle, Joy and Carolynn,” says Lewis. "We are pleased to recognize them for their efforts on creating a wonderful experience for this patient.”

Improvements in Echo Access

Lewis and the board recognized Amy Ahlin, cardiac echosonographer, for her instrumental role in improving access to echocardiograms in the cardiac services unit, as well as her leadership during a time of management transition in mid 2013. "Amy has an inquisitive attitude and uses this to continually strive to improve patient access and the patient experience in cardiac services,” says Lewis. "She also has an in-depth knowledge of every job in the department, and actively utilizes this that knowledge to help her coworkers in the department grown. We value her expertise and leadership, and her tireless efforts to offer better service to our patients.”

February Leadership Award

Mary Romstadt, RN, director of surgical services at Olympic Medical, received the management-level "Leadership Award” in February from Lewis at the monthly management meeting.

"Mary manages a set of core services here in the hospital and is a very well respected individual here at the hospital,” says Lewis. "She’s consistently thinks about the patient and challenges her staff to do so as well. She does this very reliably while acting as a strong steward of resources, working with the Epic implementation in surgery and embracing the surgical care improvement program. We are thankful for Mary’s long-time dedication to Olympic Medical Center.”
