Nurse Anesthetists Celebrate 150 Years of Providing Quality and Excellence in Anesthesia Care

January 19, 2012 - January 22 through 28 is the 13th annual National Nurse Anesthetists Week, with this year’s theme being “Quality and Excellence in Anesthesia Care,” which emphasizes the high standards which certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) adhere to when administering anesthesia.

Olympic Medical has two CRNA’s on staff at Olympic Medical, Loren Krause and Miriam Talley, who work together to provide around-the-clock pain management services for laboring women in our Birth Center.

“Our certified registered nurse anesthetists have the expertise needed to provide the highest quality of care and pain management services to our patients,” says Lorraine Wall, RN, MSN, chief nursing officer at Olympic Medical.  “We are fortunate to have both Loren and Miriam, who offer comprehensive 24-hour pain management to our laboring patients.”

National Nurse Anesthetists Week was established to recognize the profession’s long history and enduring record of patient safety across the country. It was also created to encourage CRNAs to take the opportunity to educate the public about anesthesia safety, questions to ask prior to undergoing surgery, and the benefits of receiving anesthesia care from nurse anesthetists.

CRNAs are advanced practice registered nurses who administer approximately 32 million anesthetics in the United States each year. They represent the nation’s oldest nursing specialty, dating back to the Civil War. CRNAs are qualified to provide patients with anesthetics in any practice setting and for any type of surgery or procedure.

About the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)

Founded in 1931 and located in Park Ridge, Ill., the AANA is the professional organization for more than 90 percent of the nation’s CRNAs and student registered nurse anesthetists. To learn more about National Nurse Anesthetists Week or the AANA, visit www.aana.com
