Olympic Medical Center, SEIU 1199 NW Agree to Extend Strike Restraining Order: Court Approves Joint Request to Extend Temporary Restraining Order Through September 16, 2011. OMC Hopes Extension Will Allow Both Parties Time to Focus on Resolution of the Labor Agreements

August 23, 2011 - Olympic Medical Center (OMC) today announced the Service Employees International Union Healthcare 1199 NW (SEIU) and OMC had jointly submitted a request to Kitsap County Superior Court to extend the Court’s temporary restraining order (TRO) prohibiting a one-day illegal strike by SEIU and OMC nurses and health care workers covered under SEIU’s labor agreements.  The Court today approved the request to extend the TRO through September 16, 2011.  The Court set a hearing on September 16, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. for consideration of OMC’s request for a preliminary injunction to keep in place the Order prohibiting a strike.

On August 4th, 2011 Superior Court Judge M. Karlynn Haberley, Kitsap County, granted Olympic Medical Center’s application for a 14-day temporary restraining order against SEIU , stating: “The Court agrees with Plaintiff’s {OMC’s] analysis, that the individual defendants are public employees, that the hospital is a public employer, and that the Defendants’ threatened strike is illegal.”

The temporary restraining order averted a threatened 18-hour walk out by SEIU union members on August 11th, 2011.

OMC is committed to continuing to bargain in good faith with SEIU and has requested additional bargaining dates during this extension period.
