Codes patient charts for emergency, radiology, ambulatory surgery, inpatient treatment, observation and recurring conditions. Interprets medical information such as disease or symptoms, and diagnostic descriptions and procedures in order to accurately assign and sequence the correct ICD-9-CM and CPT codes. Associate or bachelor’s degree in HIM preferred. AHIMA long distance coding courses may substitute. Three years experience in coding medical records and billing processes using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4. Experience with healthcare information systems preferred. RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC-H certified or eligible. Proficiency in electronic clinical abstracting systems; 55 wpm minimum typing speed.
