Olympic Medical Center is a comprehensive health care provider serving the residents of Port Angeles, Sequim and surrounding communities. Inpatient services include a level-three trauma designated emergency department, surgical services, and labor and delivery. Outpatient services include cardiac care, cancer care, diagnostic imaging, physical therapy and rehabilitation, laboratory, orthopaedics, surgical services, sleep center, home health, primary care, a walk-in clinic and specialty physician clinics.

Board Information

Olympic Medical Center's Board of Commissioners hold two public meetings per month in Linkletter Hall at Olympic Memorial Hospital. Work sessions are held at 12:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month, and regular business meetings are conducted at 6:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. John Beitzel has served on the Board of Commissioners since 2008 and is currently the 2012 board secretary. Beitzel currently focuses principally on health issues by serving the OMC Board of Commissioners, the Clallam County Board of Health and serving as the volunteer executive director of the Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic – Sequim’s “free” clinic. He is a founding officer of the Board of Washington Free Clinic Association and works on two committees of that organization. Previously, Beitzel has worked with “Transforming Healthcare in Clallam County”, the Access to Healthcare Coalition, supporting the effort to establish fluoridation in the water system, and he co-founded the Sequim Area Health Alliance.

Beyond his work in the health care arena, Beitzel has served as planning commissioner for the City of Sequim and as a member of the Sequim City Council from 2000 to 2007. As part of the city council he served on the Dungeness River Management Team, the Clallam Transit Board, the Peninsula College Foundation Board and he continues to serve on the Regional Transportation Organization. He received the Clallam County Citizen of the Year Award in 2003. With a Bachelor of Science degree in geological engineering, and advanced degrees in geophysics and geology, Beitzel worked for Atlantic Richfield, Co., starting with research and development and ultimately vice president of exploration for the eastern United States.

Tom Oblak was selected to the Board of Commissioners in March 2012 to fill a seat vacated by Arlene Engel after she passed away in December 2011. Oblak is a retired Sequim resident, who spent his career working in hospitals. Before he retired in March 2011, Oblak performed the role of disaster preparedness coordinator at Olympic Medical Center. Prior to that, he managed Olympic Medical’s environmental services department for four years. At the apex of his 37-year health care career, he was the director of environmental services and safety at Martin Memorial Health Systems in Stuart, Fla.

Oblak has a working knowledge of the challenges that health care organizations face. He is interested in working collaboratively with the board, bringing to the table his hands-on approach to the issues the organization and its employees face, as well as his understanding of the health care needs of the community.

John Nutter joined the Board of Commissioners in 2009. Nutter is a police officer with the City of Port Angeles, and a former finance director Olympic Medical Center where he was employed for nearly 10 years.Nutter’s interest in finance is significant, and he joined the Board of Commissioners due to his knowledge and experience in hospital finance. He served as treasurer, secretary, vice president and president of the Washington / Alaska Chapter of Healthcare Financial Management Association. Ultimately, Nutter’s interest in public safety and law enforcement drew him away from the finance field; however, he chooses to give back to the community hospital by participating on the finance and strategic planning committees of the Board. He brings strong knowledge to the table regarding hospital finances, government payers and reimbursement, and economic understanding. Nutter pursued an Associate of Arts degree from Peninsula College, and later received his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and accounting, as well as his MBA, from Western Washington University.

Jean Hordyk

Jean Hordyk has served on the board of commissioners since 1994, she is also an OMC auxiliary volunteer. As an active community member, she participated on the North Olympic Health Planning Council from its formation to conclusion, and was a charter board member for the Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County and the Clallam County Home Health Advisory Board. In addition, she has been a member of Soroptimist International of Port Angeles member for more than 30 years, acted on the Parks and Beautification Advisory Board for the City of Port Angeles, and participated on the United Way of Clallam County Board (including as president and member of the allocations committee).

Hordyk served as the director of the Port Angeles Senior Service Center for 33 years, and most recently retired as a border protection officer for Homeland Security after ten years of service. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Washington University.

Jim Cammack has served on the Board of Commissioners since 2003. Cammack is active in the medical field, and in recent years participated in the Access to Healthcare Coalition, supporting the effort to establish fluoridation in the water system and he assisted Medicare patients in selecting Medicare Part D plans.

Cammack earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and operated as a pharmacist since 1967. He successfully owned and operated Jim’s Pharmacy and Home Health Care, a local pharmacy, before his retirement. He is a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association and the Washington State Pharmacy Association, as well as a member of the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce. He formerly participated on the National Retail Advisory Board for Cardinal Health.

Dr. John Miles

Dr. John Miles is in his second year of serving on the Board of Commissioners, and is currently the 2012 board president. Although he spent most of his career in Southern California, he has found a love for the community of Port Angeles, serving as a member of the Port Angeles Fine Art Center Board of Trustees, the Clallam County Humane Society (former president) and on the Friends of the Library Board of Directors.

Miles’ extensive medical experience as an ear, nose and throat physician illustrates his knowledge of the health care field in terms of providing quality medical care and successful administrative experience. He practiced in the department of otolaryngology at Southern California Permanente Medical Group in Los Angeles for more than 30 years, participating on the board of directors in 1975. He acted as medical director until shortly before his retirement. He also acted as chief of the department of otolaryngology for more than 20 years. He also worked in the academic sector, as professor of otolaryngology at University of Southern California.  Miles’ obtained his general surgery residency at Glendale Adventist Hospital in Glendale, Calif., and his otolaryngology residency at University of Southern California Medical Center. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine.

Jim Leskinovitch

Jim Leskinovitch has served on the Board of Commissioners since 1997. He is committed to improving health care access for Clallam County, and has advocated for veterans and access to mental health services. He was a key player in bringing a one-of-a-kind Veteran Affairs health clinic to Port Angeles, preventing thousands of Clallam County veterans from having to travel to the Seattle area for prescription refills and basic visits. He also spearheaded the effort to establish fluoridation in the water system through the Access to Healthcare Coalition.

Leskinovitch is a retired aviation captain and commander for the U.S. Coast Guard. He earned numerous medals in the Coast Guard for Meritorious Service, Commendation, Achievement, Humanitarian Service, National Defense and Coast Guard Special Operations Service. He holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, as well as a Masters Degree (equivalent) from Naval War College. He also has post-graduate training in general management, management information systems, personnel management, and mediation training. In addition to his current board duties, he is an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
