History
Established on Nov. 1, 1951, Olympic Memorial Hospital opened its doors and took its first significant steps towards becoming one of the top rural medical facilities in the country.

Because local residents rallied to build a new state-of-the-art hospital at the midpoint of the 20th century, many things would evolve. For example, the opening of the new hospital led to the creation of several other impressive facilities. Today’s Olympic Medical Center not only includes the hospital, but also other entities that provide top-notch medical care in the community. Olympic Medical Center has become the premier provider of health care services and the largest employer on the Olympic Peninsula. With a staff of more than 900 employees, Olympic Medical partners with local physicians to provide a broad range of specialties, including coronary care, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pulmonary medicine, urology, general and orthopedic surgery, as well as nuclear medicine and advanced radiological imaging and cancer care.

Olympic Medical Center is committed to quality and excellence—receiving a perfect survey by the Washington State Department of Health in both 2001and 2003, earning a 100 score on its survey in 2002 by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the internationally recognized "gold standard" of quality certification. In addition, Olympic Medical Center was recently recognized for its outstanding commitment to quality by being awarded the American Hospital Association’s 2003 Quest for Quality citation of merit. Ranked among 64 hospitals with annual budgets of more than $5 million, Olympic Medical Center has been recognized by the Washington State Hospital Association as the most cost-effective medical facility in the state.
